Dengue cases surpass 360,000 from January to October 12: DOH

Dengue cases have surpassed 360,000 in the last quarter of the year, said the Department of Health (DOH) Thursday.
Based on the latest Dengue Surveillance Report, the DOH said the 360,646 cases reported from January 1 to October 12 surpasses the 172,416 dengue cases during the same period in 2017.
Deaths have risen from 887 last year to 1,373 this year, the DOH added.
On August 6, the DOH declared a dengue epidemic following the growing number of cases and deaths in different areas within the country.
Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said they are expecting about 240,000 cases for 2019 since these incidents spike every three years
In the latest DOH report, Calabarzon was found to have the most number of cases with 60,614; followed by Western Visayas with 53,704; National Capital Region with 30,205; and Central Luzon with 29,208.
Deaths from dengue were highest in Western Visayas with 224; followed by Calabarzon with 177; National Capital Region with 151; and Central Visayas with 112.
Regions exceeding the epidemic threshold are Calabarzon, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, National Capital Region, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
Ilocos, Central Luzon, and Northern Mindanao exceeded the alert threshold.
The most affected age group by dengue are the 5-9 years old with 81,633 or 23 percent).
Males were found be majority of the victims with 189,468 or 53 percent. DMS
