DICT says recent US blacklisting of Huawei will have little impact
May 23, 2019
The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) said the recent blacklisting of Huawei in the US will have little impact.
DICT said the local telcos announced they will diversify their present and future purchases.
Globe Telecom Inc., in a statement, assured customers their existing Huawei devices will continue to function properly.
PLDT Inc told subscribers their Huawei handsets and devices will continue to function normally.
“PLDT and Smart will work closely with Huawei in addressing concerns regarding future firmware and software updates for phones, pocket Wifi units, and other devices,” the company said.
On matters of cybersecurity, DICT said the telcos are still monitoring their network and no national security breach from their respective network using Huawei equipment has been found.
“DICT will continue to require local telecommunication companies to monitor their networks through world-class cybersecurity audit teams and assure the government that their respective network will not be compromised or they may suffer losing their license to operate,” the agency said.
DICT added that the same requirement will also be imposed on the incoming third telco.
“The government has the tools to protect our cyberspace from any threats to our national security,” DICT said. DMS
