DILG no clue on what Robredo will reveal about anti-drug operations

November 27, 2019

The Department of Interior and Local Government ( DILG) on Wednesday said they have no idea what will Vice President Leni Robredo tell the public as they did not give any sensitive information to her.

In a chance interview, Interior Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said no information was given to Robredo during meetings she held with the DILG when she was still a co-chairperson of Interagency Committee on Anti-illegal Drugs (ICAD).

“I was there during the ICAD briefing of DILG and we did not give any sensitive information. We gave her briefing in terms of operation conducted (and) it’s not confidential.  What we give is not confidential. It is all public information,” Malaya said.

After she was removed as ICAD co-chari, Robredo said she will make a report to the public on what she discovered when she was still with ICAD.

Malaya said the information Robredo might reveal did not come from the DILG and the Philippine National Police (PNP).

He added the DILG is open on giving her all information she needs, especially if it can help in improving their campaign against illegal drugs.

“We are open to giving her information if she needs as chair of ICAD. She needs to know all the information she needs and we were prepare to provide her (the) information,” he said.

Malaya said that as explained by Interior Secretary Eduardo Ano, Robredo's information is on a ''need to know basis.''

“If she has new ideas on how to operate the drug war-- the law enforcement cluster-- if she request anything related to that, we can give her because her goal is related to that but we did not reach that point because she was removed from post,” he added.

But now that she is no longer part of ICAD, Malaya said she will not get the information she needs.

“She might not get it because she doesn’t have the mandate now… her mandate as vice president is different from being an ICAD chairman,” he said.

Robredo was removed on Sunday as ICAD co-chair two weeks after President Rodrigo Duterte offered the post to her. Ella Dionisio/DMS
