DND says it will comply with SC order

May 30, 2019

The Department of National Defense (DND) assures that it will comply with the order of the Supreme Court in relation with the writ of amparo and habeas data filed by the cause-oriented groups.

"There is certainly no threat to their members’ lives, liberty, and security coming from the Defense and military establishments, and we will comply with the writ of habeas data as ordered by the court," the DND said in a statement issued Thursday.

The DND also expressed confidence the allegations of Karapatan Alliance Philippines Inc., Rural Missionaries of the Philippines Inc., and Gabriela will be debunked.

"The DND is confident that the allegations by Karapatan and Gabriela in connection with the writ of amparo and habeas data will be proven false before the courts," it stated.

"The DND and its bureaus fully adhere to the rule of law, and we will address Karapatan and Gabriela following the legal process," it added.

The DND issued its statement after the Supreme Court issued a writ of amparo and habeas data in favor of the petitioners in an en banc session last May 24.

The SC directed the Court of Appeals to hear the petition on June 18, 2019, and to submit a decision on the case.

The cause-oriented groups filed the petition for a writ of amparo and habeas data for alleged red-tagging, threats and attacks against its members. Robina Asido/DMS
