DOLE field officer killing could be ”job-related”: MPD
November 12, 2019
Authorities on Tuesday said the killing of a Department of Labor and Employment ( DOLE) field officer could be “job-related”.
Police Brigadier General Bernabe Balba, the Manila Police Director, said they are investigating the death of Helen Dacanay who was ambushed in Manila last November 4.
“We are looking into the possibility of job-related because we already interviewed the family and we have not yet seen at the moment if it has an angle of personal (grudge),” Balba said.
“But most of our investigation (is) on the case being handled by (Dacanay),” he added.
Balba did not say what cases are being handled by Dacanay.
A special investigation task group was created to focus on the incident.
Balba reiterated that Dacanay did not receive any death threat prior to the killing.
He also said they did not see any “significant value” in Dacanay’s cellphone which they recovered in her vehicle after the incident.
“Just normal course of things,” said Balba.
In his press conference last week, Balba said they submitted her cellphone to the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group to find out if there will be any evidence that will help on the case.
Balba said they did not set any deadline in resolving the case but they want it to be as soon as possible. Ella Dionisio/DMS
