DOLE resumes issuing employment permit to foreigners seeking work in Boracay
January 4, 2019
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will start allowing foreign nationals to work again in Boracay.
Labor Advisory No. 01-2019 said Friday the DOLE has lifted the temporary suspension on the issuance of the alien employment permits to foreign nationals in Boracay.
“In view of the lapse of the closure period and the re-opening of the Island of Boracay as a tourist destination, the Department orders the lifting of the temporary suspension on the issuance of the AEP,” said the advisory. The order takes effect immediately, the labor department said.
An alien employment permit is one of the requirements for issuing a work visa to foreigners.
It is issued once it is ascertained a foreign worker will be performing a job that local workers are not capable of doing.
Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III had suspended alien employment permits to foreigners looking to work in Boracay last June 2018.
This was in accordance with a temporary closure order of Boracay from April 26 until October 25 last year made by President Rodrigo Duterte to rehabilitate the prime tourist destination. DMS
