Dominguez opposed military’s plan to create own GSIS: Duterte
February 8, 2019
President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday said Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III opposed the creation of military’s own version of the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS).
“The practice now is that they have their own managed by the Armed Forces (of the Philippines) but the problem is Secretary (Carlos) Dominguez does not want it,” Duterte said in his speech in Legazpi City, Albay.
Duterte said he does not know why Dominguez refused it.
“He (Dominguez) said it can’t be. That’s too big a money and it should be managed by finance people,” said Duterte.
During their cabinet meeting last Wednesday, Duterte agreed to certify a bill reforming the country’s pension system for military and uniformed personnel.
The finance department earlier said Duterte had approved a proposed pension plan legislation for the military which shall create a new unit to be managed by the GSIS. Ella Dionisio/ DMS
