DoTr halts all train services after earthquake
April 22, 2019
The Department of Transport (DOTr) said it suspended service in MRT-3, LRT-1 and the LRT-2 lines following a 6.1 magnitude earthquake that was strongly felt in Metro Manila.
'' Preliminary guidance from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council ( NDRRMC) is not to resume operations after a five-hour period based on a risk of aftershocks, based on a similar earthquake event in Indonesia,'' said DOTr spokesperson Godess Libiran.
Service was halted in the LRT-1, LRT-2 and MRT-3 lines after the NDRMMC guidance issued at 5:42 pm.
Libiran said, quoting Philippine National Railways general manager Junn Magno, that PNR services were also stopped.
The trains'' eventually proceeded to unload passengers at stations,'' said DOTr. DMS
MRT-3 service Monday afternoon to assess its status after an earthquake, which had its epicenter in Zambales, was strongly felt in Metro Manila.
The quake, which had a magnitude of 5.7, caused people to leave buildings when it struck at 5;11 pm.
Transportation Secretary Art Tugade, said DOTr spokesperson Godess Libiran, wants a thorough check of the structure.
''We have to make sure the line is safe. Better to be safe than sorry,'' said Libiran. DMS
