President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the Philippine National Police (PNP) proposal to buy P330 million worth of radar speed guns and other devices to reduce road crashes.
Police Lt. Gen. Archie Francisco Gamboa, the PNP officer-in-chargem said Duterte gave the nod to their proposal during a command conference at the Malacanang Palace on Tuesday.
“Right away the President approved it. That's how he is concerned,” he said in an interview over dzMM Thursday.
With radar speed guns, policemen can detect over speeding vehicles on the road.
Also included are breathalyzers to check if drivers are drunk and weighing scales for overloaded vehicles.
Gamboa said Duterte was concerned over recent reports of several road accidents where people have been killed.
The PNP's Highway Patrol Group said there are at least 9,600 road accidents last year where more than 1,100 people died. DMS
