President Rodrigo Duterte will attend the celebration of the golden jubilee of the accession to the throne of Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah.
Duterte is set to leave for Brunei Thursday night.
While outside the country, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea was designated as officer-in-charge.
"To ensure the continuity of government service, it is necessary to designate and Officer-in-charge to take care of the day-to-day operation in the Office of the President and oversee the general administration of the Executive Department," Special Order No. 897 issued on Oct. 5, 2017 read.
All acts of the Executive Secretary for and on behalf of the President pursuant to this Order shall be deemed acts of the President unless disapproved or reprobated by the President, it added.
Duterte will have an audience with Bolkiah on Friday night and he will join in the Royal Banquet Dinner before departing for Davao before midnight.
This will be the second time that Duterte will visit a Southeast Asian country since he assumed the presidency in June last year.
