Duterte blames religion as the source of conflict, resulting to killings in the world

President Rodrigo Duterte has blamed religion as the source of conflict, resulting to the killings in the world. Even as he blamed religion for the killings in a speech before the Filipino community in Myanmar, Duterte said he believes in God. "The religion, that's the source of conflict, actually of the killings in the world. Because we cannot understand each other. As you know, religion, it's a very contentious one," Duterte said. Duterte said he has a religion. But his religion is "God, period," he said. "Where is He? Somewhere. I cannot point to space because there is none, but there is a God," he said, Duterte has been critical about the Catholic Church, even comparing some priests to him for having several wives. He even accused some prelates of being corrupt. In the same speech, Duterte expressed his opposition to same-sex marriage, citing a Time Magazine report regarding gender. He said there was no more he or she. He noted that under the New Civil Code of the Philippines, a woman can only marry a man. "Wherever God places you, you should only be there," he said.
