Duterte enraged over rape-slay of Cebu teenager

March 13, 2019

President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday expressed his anger over the rape and brutal killing of a teenager in Cebu.

In a speech in Ilagan City, Isabela during the campaign rally of the administration PDP-Laban senatorial candidates, Duterte challenged the human rights groups, which have been critical over his bloody war on drugs, to try to dig into the case of 16-year old Christine Lee Silawan, who was allegedly raped and skinned to the skull, indicating that the suspects could have used illegal drugs in perpetrating the crime.

"The human rights, you may not know, you try to dig into the case and you'd find (the reason for) my revulsion," he said.

Duterte said the teenager was not a victim of a cult, citing that the problem now is drugs and law and order.

He also recalled the rape case of former actress Maggie dela Riva.

"During our time, somebody was raped...that's a crime that goes with humanity. That's biology...but now as you can see, even a child is being raped," the President said.

Duterte reiterated that he is ready to face the consequences of his all-out war against illegal drugs where over 5,000 individuals have already been killed during the police operations.

"Watch the TV...review it everyday until reach next year, daily it's about drugs, also violence," he said.

He said there was nothing wrong if it was only about drugs and if there were those who wanted to eat drugs.

"If you want to eat drugs, fine. I could volunteer government funds," he said.

But he added the problem is those who use drugs also commit crimes. Celerina Monte/DMS
