August 16, 2017
President Rodrigo Duterte extended on Wednesday assistance to his "neighbors" displaced by fire near Malacanang.
Duterte met with the displaced residents inside the National Shrine of St. Michael and the Archangels church in San Miguel Manila.
Duterte handed over food packs from the Department of Social Welfare and Development. Each food pack contains six kilos of rice, three cans of corned beef, three cans of meatloaf, six sachets of three-in-one coffee, blanket, mat and bottled water.
He also gave P5,000 to each family.
About 200 families were left homeless after the fire razed the houses in Barangay 645 in San Miguel, Manila early Wednesday, news reports said.
Duterte said he was grateful that no one was killed. He said lives are more important than anything else. Celerina Monte/DMS
