Duterte issues EO hiking employment compensation funeral benefits for employees in private and public sectors from P20,000 to P30,000
July 19, 2017
President Rodrigo Duterte has issued an executive order increasing the employment compensation funeral benefits for employees in the private and public sectors from P20,000 to P30,000. EO 33, which Duterte signed on July 17, 2017, said the current employees compensation funeral benefit for both the private and public sectors is no longer sufficient to cover ordinary funeral costs. "The amount of EC Funeral Benefits in both the private and public sectors is hereby increased from P20,000 to P30,000, effective immediately," the EO said. Duterte directed the Employees' Compensation Commission, Social Security System and Government Service Insurance System to appropriate and release the amounts necessary to cover the increase in benefits. The ECC shall issue the rules and regulations as may be necessary to implement the Order, which shall take effect immediately upon its publication in a newspaper of general circulation.
