Duterte lauds military for neutralizing Abu Sayyaf bandits off Sulu

President Rodrigo Duterte has hailed the government forces who neutralized suspected Abu Sayyaf terrorists off Sulu early this month.

In a speech before the Western Mindanao Command-Joint Task Force Sulu on Monday, Duterte honored the soldiers for "a highly successful conduct" of operation "Perfect Storm 2" in Parang, Sulu on November 3.

"This operation resulted in the neutralization of at least seven members of the Da'wah Islamiyah Abu Sayyaf Kidnap for Ransom Group under Sawadjaan and Radullan Sahiron. These men were reportedly en route to conduct a kidnapping operation in Surigao province. Despite unfavorable conditions, our troops from the WESCOM JTF bravely undertook air and sea interdiction operations that led to this victory," he said.

As the commander-in-chief, Duterte said he salutes the gallantry, vigilance, and commitment in defeating the terrorists.

He reiterated his administration's unwavering support to the Armed Forces of the Philippine and the Philippine National Police through programs that will further improve their capacity to respond to security needs of the county.

"We need to beef up our security, that's why be strong, do not worry. Your job is to secure the nation, make it peaceful," he added. Celerina Monte/DMS
