Duterte may address public Monday – Palace

November 2, 2020

President Rodrigo Duterte may address the nation later Monday after inspecting areas struck by Super Typhoon "Rolly" and holding a meeting with the Cabinet officials.

In the meeting of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Monday morning, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said this was the information relayed to him by Senator Christopher "Bong" Go, who most of the time has been with Duterte.

"Depending on whether or not they can fly back to Manila, the President may address the people again this afternoon," he said.

But he said it would still be up to the authorities if they would allow Duterte's plane to take off from Davao City to Manila.

During the height of Rolly, Duterte was in Davao City and did not even participate in the NDRRMC meeting on Sunday. This prompted the people to turn to Twitter and asked where Duterte was.

Go, in a televised interview, said Duterte will visit Bicol Region, particularly Albay and Legazpi City, later Monday to inspect the damage brought by Rolly. But it was not sure if it will be an aerial inspection alone or he will land in the area.

Roque said Duterte will also have his regular meeting with the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases on Thursday and he is expected to deliver a public message after. Celerina Monte/DMS
