Duterte names CA Justice Gaerlan to Supreme Court

President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Court of Appeals Justice Samuel Gaerlan as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said on Wednesday.

"The President has appointed as a new Justice of the Supreme Court CA Justice Samuel Gaerlan, a graduate of San Beda," Panelo told reporters.

Duterte, a lawyer by profession, took up his law at San Beda University.

He said Gaerlan was chosen based on his "competence and integrity."

Gaerlan replaced Diosdado Peralta who was named as the chief justice. Celerina Monte/DMS
