President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Court of Appeals Associate Justice Amy Lazaro-Javier as an associate justice of the Supreme Court.
Javier, 62, has succeeded Associate Justice Noel Tijam, who retired last January, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea said on Wednesday in a text message to reporters.
Malacañang has yet to release Javier's appointment paper.
In a statement, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said: ''We are confident that Associate Justice Javier, as a new guardian of the rule of law, would display a high degree of competence, integrity and independence during her stint at the Supreme Court.''
Javier, an education graduate of the Philippine Normal University, graduated magna cum laude at the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Civil Law.
Javier began her career in public service as a trial attorney in the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) in 1983 and later became Assistant Solicitor General in 1994.
Javier was named at the CA in August 2007. She will retire from the judiciary in November 2026. Celerina Monte/DMS
