Duterte names Peralta as new chief justice

President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Associate Justice Diosdado Peralta as the new chief justice.
Duterte signed Peralta's appointment paper on Wednesday, October 23, said Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea.
Peralta succeeded Chief Justice Lucas Bersamin who retired on October 18.
He will serve as the chief magistrate until March 27, 2022.
He started his career in government service in 1987 when he was appointed Third Assistant City Fiscal of Laoag City.
Peralta was named as the 162nd Associate Justice of the Supreme Court on January 13, 2009.
Prior to his appointment in the Supreme Court, he was the Presiding Justice of the Sandiganbayan in 2008.
He graduated at the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Civil Law in 1979. He obtained his undergraduate degree in economics from the Colegio de San Juan de Letran. Celerina Monte/DMS
