July 1, 2019
President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the Philippine Export Development Plan (PEDP) 2018-2022 to boost exports and increase job opportunities for Filipinos.
Memorandum Circular No. 62, which Duterte signed on June 26, also directed the concerned agencies to review all relevant policies to ensure the implementation of the PEDP.
Article II, Section 5 of Republic Act No. 7844 or the "Export Development Act of 1994" provides that the President shall approve the PEDP prepared by the Department of Trade and Industry, which shall form part of the Philippine Development Plan, the circular said.
The MC said Export Development Council ( ExDC) has endorsed the PEDP 2018-2022 for Duterte's approval in its 2018 resolution.
"Pursuant to the provisions of ArticleII of RA No. 7844, the ...PEDP 2018-2022 is hereby approved," Duterte said.
The circular said within 60 days after its effectivity, all concerned government agencies shall submit to the ExDC and the Office of the President an inventory of relevant policies, programs and action plans which are aligned with the strategies under the PEDP.
The agencies were ordered to implement policies, programs and action plans "to boost export growth and ensure the free flow of goods," it said.
The ExDC was tasked to ensure the bi-annual validation and updating of the PEDP pursuant to the provisions of RA 7844 and in the context of the PDP.
The circular shall take effect immediately. Celerina Monte/DMS
