Duterte says he may no longer appoint Faeldon to gov’t post
September 11, 2019
President Rodrigo Duterte is not inclined to appoint to any government post dismissed Bureau of Corrections chief Nicanor Faeldon.
In an interview with reporters on Tuesday night, Duterte said Faeldon is now working in a private corporation.
"May be not anymore...he was accepted. Private corporation," he said when asked to state he would not assign Faeldon to another government position.
Despite firing Faeldon due to the controversy over the release of some 2,000 inmates convicted of heinous crimes under the good conduct time allowance law, the President earlier said he still trusts the former BuCor chief.
Duterte did not say the private corporation where Faeldon now works with.
Meanwhile, Duterte said those who were released under GCTA law but have not yet surrendered because they live in far places would just have to inform the government.
He said he would ask the Department of Interior and Local Government to provide them money so they could come to Manila and register.
"Then we will provide you with temporary shelter. That's the best - the most fair that I can think of," he said.
Duterte earlier gave 15 days to surrender those who were released under the GCTA but committed heinous crimes. Failure to report to the government would mean they would be fugitives and would be subjects of manhunt operations.
There were at least 180 GCTA beneficiaries who have reported to the authorities since Duterte made the warning last week. Celerina Monte/DMS
