Duterte tells critics: You’d said I’m a monster…look for court for monsters

November 18, 2018

President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday lashed out at the International Criminal Court anew as he also told his critics to look for a court for monsters if they want to try him on his "war on drugs".

In his speech before the Filipino community in Papua New Guinea, Duterte said he would not allow himself to be tried by a "few idiots."

"They said, that Duterte is not a human right --- ah he is not human. 'He is a monster'. Then I don't belong in the human rights. Look for a court for monsters," he said.

"Those fools. Who are these judges? Were we consulted when they were chosen? Who knows some of them could be pedophiles. So why would I allow myself to be tried by a few idiot human beings in this world?” he said.

Duterte said he does not recognize the ICC body because it was created by the European Union.

“These human rights, the European community. You heard they charged me because they want ICC to investigate me. I said I do not recognize the ICC. It is a creation of EU. That's not an International Court of Justice," he said.

Duterte has repeatedly attacked the ICC and its judges amid two complaints filed against him for crimes against humanity due to thousands of Filipinos who were killed due to his war on drugs.

In jest, he said he would hide Papua New Guinea when his term ends.

"Maybe after the end of my term I will catch the next available flight to reach Papua New Guinea. I will just hide in the fields. I’m sure the governor can arrange for a simple living there," he said, adding that there is no extradition treaty between the Philippines and Papua New Guinea. Ella Dionisio/DMS
