Duterte to ask Congress to pass death penalty: Panelo
July 22, 2019
Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said President Rodrigo Duterte will ask Congress to pass the death penalty bill.
In a radio interview, Panelo said the executive department is confident that the bill will now pass with the composition of the legislative department.
“Yes he will ask them,” he said.
“You know the members of the Congress, they know what is good for our country,” he added.
Panelo said the death penalty they are eyeing will focus on drugs but he also thinks that Senator Bong Go’s version of the bill which includes plunder is good.
“It’s good so that the plunder politics will stop… whatever the president wants, it’s for the sake of country,” he added.
Panelo also revealed that Duterte will discuss the West Philippine Sea.
“He will inform the public that the critics are wrong and this is the right path to resolve the conflict,” he said.
“He will explain and answer what they (critics) are saying unconstitutional,” he added.
Earlier, Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said the speech of Duterte will last for 42 minutes where he is set to discuss the “legacy” he will leave for the next three years of his presidency. Ella Dionisio/DMS
