August 2, 2017

President Rodrigo Duterte vows to approve acquisition of the best equipment for the Bureau of Fire Protection as it celebrate its 26th founding anniversary in Camp Aguinaldo Wednesday.

“The matter of improving the services of the fire bureau, this is what I can say. We will have the best of everything,” he said.

“What I am really saying is that now you should buy the best and I will give it, the same with the military and police,” Durerte added.

Duterte said the bureau should not be bound to choosing a supplier that offers the lowest bid which according to him is a source of corruption.

“I have criticized publicly this practice of Commission on Audit (COA) in insisting this lowest…I said when you buy, you buy the best,” he said.

“You know the lowest bid that’s the source of corruption in the country for so many years now… because they lowered the price and you will deliver the worst…. lowest bid, what do you expect?,” Duterte added.

Duterte assured that the bureau will have the budget and the best quality of equipment that is due to them.

“I will see to it that whatever is in the budget will go to you and you will have the best and you will have the quality that you want, you just insist on me and I will take your word for it and I will buy it,” he said.

“I will not be bound by the lowest bid because I don’t want to be part of the corruption. Don’t force me to be a party to a corruption every transaction you go for a lowest bid, because it is always a product of a corruption,” Duterte added. Robina Asido/DMS
