Duterte’s ratings surge in Pulse Asia June survey

July 17, 2017

President Rodrigo Duterte’s performance rating for June rose to 82 percent from 75 in March, survey firm Pulse Asia said in its survey on Monday. For Vice President Leni Robredo it was 61 percent from 58 in March followed by Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III at 62 percent from 55 percent, Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez at 43 percent from 40 percent and Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno at 48 percent from 42. Duterte’s performance rating in Mindanao surged to 95 percent from 88 percent despite declaring martial law  on May 23 due to the attack by the Maute-Abu Sayyaf Group in Marawi City. His trust rating in Mindanao climbed to 97 percent from 90 percent in March. Duterte’s trust rating was 81 percent from 76 percent in March, with Robredo at 60 percent from 56 percent, Pimentel 58 percent from 51 percent, Alvarez 41 percent from 37 percent and Sereno from 43 percent from 40 percent. Among income classes, class E remains the bulwark of support in Duterte’s trust and performance ratings, with 85 percent and 84 percent, respectively. He fetches trust and performance ratings of 77 percent and  79 percent in the ABC income class. Duterte’s strong numbers, said Pulse Asia President Ronald Holmes in a Viber message to Daily Manila Shimbun, could be due “to his continuous pursuit of the singular issue he promised to act as well as his fortright announcements.” Holmes added that issue is “essentially, the anti-drugs… He was quick to act on appointees that were alleged to be involved in corrupt practices.” But Holmes added “the sustained approval and trust ratings don’t differ from the records established by prior presidents for surveys done when they were close to a year from assuming their position.”  DMS
