Escovilla receives certificate of Conferment of the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette

On February 10, retired Judge Antonina Oshita Escovilla received from the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan Taro Kono, the certificate of Conferment of the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette and the decoration from Ambassador Koji Haneda during the conferment ceremony held at the Waterfront Insular Hotel in Davao City.

In his congratulatory message, Haneda lauded Escovilla for her contribution to the improvement of the status of Japanese descendants, including educational environment, and to the promotion of mutual understanding between Japan and the Philippines, a press statement from the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines said Thursday.

Escovilla, in her acceptance speech, expressed her deep appreciation to the Government of Japan for the recognition.

She said she rejoices with the thousands of war-displaced Japanese descendants who are members of the Philippine Nikkei Kai for the precious conferment.

The conferment ceremony, which was held during the inauguration of the Consulate-General of Japan in Davao, was witnessed by more than 400 guests including Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin, Jr., Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III, National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon, Presidential Peace Process Advisor Carlito Galvez, MILF Chairman Al Haj Murad Ebrahim, Philippine Ambassador to Japan Jose Laurel V, and Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio. 

The family and friends of Escovilla were also present. DMS
