Explosion damages rescue boat of Masbate municipality

A rescue boat of a local government unit was damaged in an explosion in Masbate on Sunday.

Capt. Armando Balilo, spokesman of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), said based on initial report the explosion occurred at the seawall of Brgy Poblacion, Balud at around 10:45 pm.

Balilo said the point of explosion is just 200 meters away from the municipal hall of Balud.

“Initial investigation revealed that an unidentified male person wearing stripe short pants and white sweatshirt about 5'5" in height carrying a backpack was seen running away from the incident area,” he said.

Balilo said there was no casualty recorded because of the incident but he said the rescue boat of the municipality of Balud was “badly damaged”.

Balilo said Coast Guard Sub Station Calumpang and the Philippine National Police are still gathering evidence and investigating the incident. Robina Asido/DMS
