Farmers cooperatives, beneficiaries to receive farm equipment under RCEF

Around 589 farmer's cooperative and association beneficiaries will receive procured farm equipment under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF).

According to Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PhilMech) which is in control of RCEF mechanization, the 589 beneficiaries are expected to use the acquired material after March 2020.

PhilMech Executive Director Baldwin Jallorina said among the announcements which will help lower cost of production for farmers include wheel tractors, floating tillers, precision seeders, walk-bend and riding type transplanters, reapers, threshers, harvesters, mechanical dryers, and rice mills.

Based on PhilMech's timeline of procurement, the issuance of bid for the materials will begin on October 23 and the contract for the chosen bid will be awarded by December 5. The procurement period is expected to be completed by March 11, 2020.

Under the RCEF mechanization, around 1,204 farmers are targeted to be trained until December. Cristina Eloisa Baclig/DMS
