A fisherman drowned while another is missing after their boat was battered by strong waves in Eastern Samar.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said personnel of its sub-station in Guiuan, with the Guiuan Response Team, conducted search and rescue operation to look for the two missing persons at the vicinity of Barangay Ngolos, Guiuan last Saturday.
"Initial report revealed that the individuals drowned and went missing when they were battered by strong waves while fishing in said vicinity waters," said PCG.
On Sunday, the search and rescue team recovered the body of a fisherman identified as Edelberto Moreno, 32, of Barangay Buenavista, Quinapondan.
"The recovered cadaver was brought to Guiuan Port Terminal and was turnover to Guiuan Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) for proper disposition," the PCG stated.
The PCG said as Monday search and rescue team temporarily suspended the operation and conducted shoreline patrol due to the unfavorable weather and sea condition.
"The team advised local fishers and nearby coastal communities to be on the look-out for the last missing person and inform the nearest Coast Guard unit about the location to render necessary assistance," it added. Robina Asido/DMS
