A former mayor accused by President Rodrigo Duterte of being linked to drug trafficking, and his brother were killed in separate police operations Friday in Cotabato.
Talib Abo Sr., former mayor of Parang town in Maguindanao, died in a firefight at his home after he shot at drug enforcement officers, who had a search warrant for illegal drugs at his home in Gutierrez Street shortly after 12:30 a.m., Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency regional director Juvinal Azurin told reporters.
“He resisted and shot our team,” Azurin said.
Authorities went to the home of Abo’s younger brother, Bobby, who was shot after resisting arrest.
“Both of them were rushed to the hospital but later died,” Azurin said. DMS
