Former policewoman arrested in Pasig entrapment operation

A former policewoman was arrested in an entrapment operation in Pasay City on Monday afternoon.

Police Capt. Mae Ann Cunanan, Philippine National Police (PNP) - Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) public information officer identified the arrested suspect as Beverly Banan, previously assigned at the Ilocos regional police human resource and doctrine division with the rank of Police Staff Sergeant before she was declared dropped from rolls in 2013.

Police Col. Ronald Oliver Lee, PNP-IMEG director, said the arrest of Banan was made following the order of PNP Chief General Archie Francisco Gamboa to validate  alleged involvement of some personnel in extortion after receiving information regarding anomalies in  recruitment as well as reassignment and promotion of PNP personnel.

Lee said Banan demanded P40,000 to P80,000 from an unndercover IMEG officer who posed as policeman seeking transfer to another unit was apprehended inside a fast-food outlet in Metro Point Building, Pasay City around 3:25 pm.

He said the suspect was collared after getting the P 39,000 boodle money topped by a marked P1,000 bill from the undercover police officer.

Police recovered three cellphones and PNP documents related to transfer of PNP personnel to other units during the arrest.

Banan is being held at the PNP-IMEG lock-up facility in Camp Crame while facing charges for robbery-extortion.

Lee said the arrest of Banan resulted in the conduct of an ongoing  investigation to identify her possible cohorts, specifically the active police personnel who have access to PNP personnel records and reassignement.
