July 19, 2019

A family of three and their driver died after a vehicular collision in Quezon, Thursday evening.

According to a police report, a truck bus, motorcycle, and two private vans collided along Maharlika Highway near Barangay Malay in Lopez around 11:15 pm.

Investigation revealed that while traversing the curved portion of the road, the truck  bus overtook the motorcycle and accidentally bumped into a Toyota Hi-Ace.

It hit the motorcycle and a Honda Civic parked alongside the road.

All passengers in the Toyota Hi-Ace  were rushed to Magsaysay Hospital but four were declared dead on arrival.

They were the driver identified as Paterno Carnate Jr. along with Raymundo Acebuche, Maryjoy Acebuche, and Raquel Acebuche.

In an interview over GMA News , Lopez Police Station chief investigator  Master Sergeant Roman Edera said it is possible the driver of the truck bus was driving too fast and lost control of the vehicle.

"The road was slightly curved and perhaps the bus was travelling too fast," Edera said.

Edera said the site is an accident prone area, with warning signs put up alongside the road.

"There were several accidents which happened in that area. There are already signages and warning signals," he explained.

Edera said the owner of the truck bus is cooperating with the authorities and victims. Cristina Eloisa Baclig/DMS
