Galvez congratulates soldiers on eve of retirement as AFP chief of staff

General Carlito Galvez Jr. who is set to retire on Tuesday  congratulated every soldier for a job well done during his eight-month stint as the 50th chief of staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

“As I near retirement, I was able to breathe and say ‘we can do it’, I could not be any happier and more content than I am now, that we are able to accomplish our goals. All of these will not be possible without your help and support,” Galvez said during his last flag raising ceremony as AFP chief Monday.

Galvez, joined by his wife Marissa, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, and his wife, Editha, led the “Panunumpa sa Karapatang Pantao”.

“On behalf of every soldier, airman, sailor, and marines, we join the whole nation in observing the culmination of National Human Rights Consciousness Week: Protecting Human Lives, Uplifting Human Dignity, and Advancing People’s Progress,” Galvez said.

After the pledge, Galvez gave commendation medals to Major General Fernando Trinidad, Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence; Maj Gen Isidro Purisima, Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations ; Brig Gen Ser-Me Ayuyao, Judge Advocate General for performance of their duties; and Mrs. Editha Lorenzana for her contributions and support to the AFP especially during the Marawi siege.

“I may never thank you enough for all the hard work and patience, but I did try my best with the programs and policies that will boost the morale of our personnel. Years of experience have taught me that I can only harness commitment and devotion to public service by providing to be a better example of myself. And I always believed that morale of personnel first, and mission accomplishment always,” he added.

Galvez said the relationship between him and people he has worked with in the Armed Forces will remain strong as he was given the task to work at the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process. DMS
