March 9, 2020

The Philippine National Police (PNP) chief on Monday their submission on the result of an investigation on more than 300 police officers included in the government’s narcolist to President Rodrigo Duterte might be delayed.

“The timeline is, we are supposed to present it last Friday to SILG (Interior Secretary Eduardo Año) of course with the (national adjudication board) chairman (Police Lieutenant)General (Camilo) Cascolan and the vice chairman (Police Major) General (Mariel) Magaway,'' said Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa in a press briefing in Camp Crame.

''But you know because of the incident, probably I will explain to the President that we will be delayed,” added Gamboa.

Magaway is still unconscious after a chopper carrying Gamboa, Magaway and other PNP crashed shortly after take-off in San Pedro, Laguna.

Gamboa said the PNP will probably submit it to Duterte in less than two weeks.

“But first we have to show it to the SILG,” he said.

One of the cops being investigated is relieved Police Lieutenant Colonel Jovie Espenido, the Duterte administration poster boy for having a lot of accomplishments in the campaign against illegal drugs.

Earliers, Año said his accomplishments could help Espenido in the investigation being conducted against him.

Western Visayas police director, Brigadier General Rene Pablico Pamuspusan also said there is no information or report that would confirm Espenido’s involved in illegal drugs in the region.

“Well what I said is as far as (Police) Regional Office 6 is concerned, there is no reliable information or confirmatory report that would say that Espenido is involved in illegal drugs,” Pamuspusan said.

Pamuspusan said he cannot comment on Espenido’s other assignments outside Western Visayas.

After it was revealed that he was relieved, Espenido told media he was  removed from the narcolist in 2017, He questioned the PNP’s intelligence work. Ella Dionisio/DMS
