Gamboa takes oath as new PNP chief
January 20, 2020
President Rodrigo Duterte administered on Monday the oath of office of Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa as the new chief of the Philippine National Police ( PNP).
Gamboa, who is the 23rd PNP chief, took his oath in Sto. Tomas, Batangas, where several families displaced by the Taal Volcano eruption have been temporarily staying.
Duterte visited the place to assure the affected families of the government's continuous assistance.
It took about two months before Duterte named a new PNP head following the retirement of Oscar Albayalde last November.
Before his retirement, Albayalde quit as PNP chief after he was accused of coddling "ninja cops" who were allegedly involved in recycling seized illegal drugs in Pampanga in 2013.
Duterte said he wanted to make sure that Albayalde's successor is honest and not corrupt. Celerina Monte/DMS
