Haneda, Locsin sign Metro Cebu project for septage management
July 23, 2019
Japanese Ambassador Koji Haneda and Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr signed and exchanged notes concerning the grant (with provision of up to two billion yen) for the project for the Septage Management of Metro Cebu Water District.
This was made on July 23, the Japanese Embassy in Manila said in a press statement on Tuesday.
The project addresses the widespread environmental pollution in Metro Cebu caused by inadequate drainage treatment and illegal dumping of sludge into rivers.
The absence of septage treatment is a major public health concern because of groundwater contamination.
Japan’s grant will be used to construct septic tank sludge treatment facility and provide sludge collection vehicles as well as improve the operation system for sludge processing in Metro Cebu Water District.
This project is expected to contribute to stable economic development by promoting proper household sludge treatment and improving water and hygienic environmental pollution. DMS
