House approves bill setting 100-day paid maternity leave

The House of Representatives approved on Tuesday on third and final reading a proposed law seeking to grant the 100-day paid maternity leave for expectant working mothers in public and private sectors with an option to extend an additional 30 days without pay.
House Bill No. 4113 allows additional 30-day leave without pay on condition that the woman employee should inform her employer in writing 45 days before the ordinary maternity leave ends.
The Senate on March 6, 2017 approved on third and final reading Senate Bill (SB) No. 1305 granting 120 days paid maternity leave to expectant mothers, with an option to extend it for another 30 days without pay.
The bicameral conference committee will meet to reconcile the two versions for President Rodrigo Duterte’s signature. DMS
