Iloilo City mayor trips to Japan, Malaysia cleared by DILG

A trip to Japan and Malaysia by a local executive who is said to be in the list of narcopoliticians of President Rodrigo Duterte has been approved by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG). Undersecretary Catalino Cuy, officer-in-charge of the DILG, said based on their records Iloilo City Mayor Jed Mabilog's travel to Japan from August 31 to September 3 and to Malaysia on Sept 7 to 9 were approved. Mabilog's lawyer, Mark Piad, was quoted in news reports as saying the local chief executive left for Japan last Wednesday to attend a forum of CityNet, an organization focusing on urban development.. Under law, no local government official shall leave for abroad without authorization and approved leave application from authorities. DMS
