Inflation for bottom 30% income households at 8.2% in November, higher than national

While the national inflation rate for November was at six percent, the year-on-year inflation for the bottom 30 percent income households slowed down to 8.2 percent in November  from 9.5 percent in the previous month, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said Friday.

In November 2017, inflation was posted at 3-4 percent.

Slowdowns were noted in indices of food, beverages and tobacco  at 9.3 percent and fuel, light and water  at 8.1 percent.

Compared with annual increments in October, higher annual rates were registered in the indices of clothing at 3.1 percent; housing and repairs , 5.4 percent; services, 3.7 percent; and miscellaneous, 2.3 percent

The food index at the national level eased to 8.3 percent in November. Its annual change was noted at 9.8 percent in the previous month and 3.3 percent in November 2017.

Relative to their annual rates in the previous month, annual add-ons in November 2018 were slower in the indices of the following food groups: rice (9.7 percent). corn (3.4 percent), fish (11.3 percent), fruits and vegetables (10.4 percent), meat (6.2 percent) and miscellaneous foods (6 percent).

Prices for this group of consumers in the National Capitol Region (NCR) continued to move at a slower pace of 6.2 percent in November. In the previous month, inflation settled to 6.9 percent, while in November 2017, the annual rate was observed at 4.5 percent.

Inflation in areas outside NCR for the bottom 30 percent income households eased to 8.3 percent in November 2018. In the previous month, its annual rate was at 9.5 percent, while in November 2017, it was  at 3.3 percent.

Year-on-year growth of the food index in areas outside NCR decelerated to 8.3 percent in November  The annual rate was posted at 9.8 percent in the previous month, and 3.3 percent in November 2017 .

Lower annual increments were recorded in the indices of the following food groups: rice (9.8 percent); corn (3.4 percent); fish (11.3 percent); fruits and vegetables (10.4 percent); meat (6.2 percent); and miscellaneous foods (6 percent). DMS
