Kidnap victims up 3% in 2018, says PNP

The number of kidnap for ransom victims increased by three percent last year, according to the Philippine National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG) Sunday.
Data showed 69 foreigners and locals were kidnapped in 2018, up 2.98 percent compared to 2017 where there were 67 victims.
Of the number, 27 are foreigners while 42 are Filipinos. Majority of the foreigners were Chinese with 17 followed by Indonesians with four and and two Indians.
Thirty-eight victims were kidnapped in Mindanao. Luzon follows with 30 and one in Visayas.
Chinese nationals who have fallen victims to kidnap-for-ransom groups surged y 112.5 percent compared to eight in 2017.
Superintendent Elmer Cereno, spokesman of the Anti-Kidnapping Group, said majority of these Chinese citizens are loan shark victims.
The number of Filipinos kidnapped last year increased 16.7 percent, from 36 in 2017 to 42 last year. Majority were from Mindanao with 33 followed by eight in Luzon and one in Visayas. DMS
