January 6, 2020
La Trinidad, the capital of Benguet, and Aboitiz Power signed a Memorandum of Agreement Monday for a 20-megawatt hydroelectric power project.
La Trinidad Municipal Mayor Romeo Salda said the hydropower plant is one of the biggest projects this year that will possibly bring bigger income for the local government.
He said that having companies like Aboitiz Power is proof the Private Power Partnership (PPP) works.
Aboitiz Power Vice President Chis Faelnar said the hydroelectric plant will be constructed between Barangay Banengbeng, Sablan, also in Benguet and Barangay Bineng, La Trinidad .
Indigenous people of Sablan and La Trinidad approved the project through free prior and informed consent.
The project will generate around 61 million kilowatt per hour a year.
Faelnar said Aboitiz Power will give one centavo per kilowatt to Sablan and La Trinidad.
He said that will be around P600,000 a year for each municipality.
Construction is eyed to start in March. It will be finished in 20 months. DMS
