Large volume of dead fish found in Las Pinas and Paranaque area

Authorities on Thursday found a big volume of dead fish during a clearing operations in coastal areas of Las Piñas and Parañaque.
A report from the Philippine National Police- Regional Maritime Unit NCR said some police officers from PNP Sangyaman assisted the Department of Environment- NCR in their clearing operation of floating shanties within the coastal areas of Las Piñas- Parañaque City around 6:45 am.
Around 9 am, they discovered a large quantity of dead fish along the shoreline of Long Island and by 12 noon, more fish were uncovered, police said.
"Discovered fish species such as but not limited to Sapsap, Asuhos, Bugaong, Salinyasi, Alacaac, Banac, Botete, Kandole, etc. The volume of the dead fish was estimated to be more or less 30 tubs," the report said.
Police Col. Jason Cipriano, who heads the Maritime Group's NCR field unit, said the fishes were worth P700,000 to P 1 million based on initial assessment by the Department of Agriculture.
Police officers with the Paranque City agriculture and fisheries office collected the fish and water samples to be given to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources for examination. Ella Dionisio/DMS
