LTFRB rolls back jeepney fare to nine pesos
December 3, 2018
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) released a resolution Monday ordering a provisional rollback of the minimum fare for public utility jeepneys from ten pesos to nine pesos.
“Because of the continuous rollback in the price of fuel, (Transport) Secretary ( Arthur) Tugade directed us to implement a motu proprio fare decrease. We will implement that, and no fee shall be charged for a new fare matrix,” LTFRB Chairman Martin Delgra III said in a statement.
The motu proprio rollback covers the first four kilometers of jeepney routes for the National Capital Region, Central Luzon and Calabarzon.
The LTFRB order, effective immediately upon publication, is based on recent decreases in fuel prices in the world market, resulting in lower pump prices of diesel.
As directed by Tugade, the LTFRB has resolved to come up with a formula that shall pre-determine fare adjustments, as set by economic indicators such as world market prices of crude oil, foreign currency exchange rate, consumer price index, inflation rate, and the financial viability of the public transport system.
The formula shall be deliberated and proposed by a technical working group, which will be convened by the LTFRB. DMS
