December 5, 2018
President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday named Lt. Gen Benjamin Madrigal, head of the Eastern Mindanao Command, as the new chief of staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), news reports said Madrigal replaces General Carlito Galvez, who is being eyed by Duterte to be the presidential peace adviser. Galvez reaches the mandatory retirement age of 56 on December 12. Jesus Dureza resigned last week as presidential peace adviser to take command responsibility for alleged graft by his deputy, who was fired by Duterte. DMS
