Magnitude 6.4 quake strikes off Davao Occidental

A magnitude 6.4 quake jolted Davao Occidental on Sunday morning.
According to Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the tremor was detected around 10:02 AM. The tectonic earthquake had its epicenter located 130 kilometers East of Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental.
Phivolcs also reported that it has a depth of at least 60 kilometers.
Intensity IV was felt in General Santos City; III in Tampakan, South Cotabato; Kidapawan City; Makilala and Magpet Cotabato; Davao City; Magsaysay and Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur; Panabo CIty; Gingoog City and Magsaysay, Misamis Oriental; Dumulog and Kalilangan, Bukidnon; and intensity II in Cagayan de Oro City; Balingasaag, Jsaan, and Villanueva, Misamis Oriental; Kabacan, M'lang, and Tulunan, COtabato; Columbio and Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat.
Other intensities recorded by Phiviolcs include: Intensity IV in Kiamba and Alabel, Sarangani; General Santos City; Tupi, South Cotabato; Intensity III in Gingoog City; and Kidapawan City; and Intensity I in Bislig CIty; and Cagayan de Oro City.
No damages are expected as a result of the earthquake, Phivolcs said. However, it also warned affected areas for possible aftershocks. Cristina Eloisa Baclig/DMS
