Manila seniors, PWDs can work in fast food companies

Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno and Jollibee Foods Corp. on Friday inked a memorandum of agreement granting senior citizens and differently abled citizens of Manila to work in fast-food companies.
Under the memorandum signed by Moreno and Jollibee Foods Corp. President Justo Alano III, elderly and persons with disabilities are allowed to work in Jollibee, Mang Inasal, Chowking and Greenwich for a period of six moths.
According to the signed memorandum, senior citizens "must be 60 years of age and above at the time of application, ,ust pass the physical, medical, and laboratory examinations, and certified to be fit to work;" and must submit the required documents.
The qualifications for applicants under the persons with disabilities are: "the individual must be a deaf and mute (subject to subsequent inclusion of other differently abled individuals); must pass physical, medical, and laboratory examinations, and certified to be fit to work;" and applicants should also submit required documents.
The memorandum also ordered fast food companies to hire a minimum of two senior citizens and one persons with disability for their respective branches and assign each applicants under a program created and suited for them.
"For senior citizens or elderly individuals, they shall be assigned to wok for not more than four hours a day, in shifts between 8 am to 12 noon or 1 pm to 5 pm, for five days a week," the memorandum said.
"For persons with disabilities or differently-abled individuals, they may be assigned to work in shifts applied to regular crew employees of the fast food company, but not to exceed eight hours a day," it added.
Successful applicant will be stationed in service or customer areas and will be customer relations staff.
Aside from receiving regular minimum wage, the applicants will also be granted 13th month pay as well as medical insurance under the company.
According to Manila Public Information Office chief Julius Leonen, the memorandum takes effect after it was signed on Friday.
