Maynilad to seek explanation from MWSS on penalty
June 28, 2019
Maynilad Water Services, Inc. said on Friday they will ask the Metropolitan Water Works and Sewage System ( MWSS) the reason for imposing a penalty following complaints a barangay in Las Pinas had service interruptions last May.
In a statement, Maynilad said it has received a notice from the MWSS Regulatory Office regarding their decision to penalize them due to Maynilad's failure to comply with its service obligations under the concession agreement.
"(W)e will coordinate with our regulators to determine the rationale behind their decision and how they arrived at their computations," Maynilad said.
"We will set our next course of action based on this decision," they added.
MWSS slapped a penalty of P2,500 rebate per household to Maynilad's severely affected customers in Barangay Captain Albert Aguilar, Las Pinas City.
According to MWSS Chief Regulator Patrick Ty, the sanction is caused by water service interruptions last May.
MWSS added that Maynilad is expected to apply the rebate to succeeding water bills or statements of their severely affected customers. Cristina Eloisa Baclig/DMS
