Misuari commends Moreno’s plan for Muslim Cemetery
November 15, 2019
Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) founding chairman Nur Misuari commended Manila Mayor Isko Moreno for a planned Muslim Cemetery in the city.
In a meeting with Misuari, Moreno explained that the first Muslim Cemetery will be located inside the vicinity of Manila South Cemetery. The local government aims to finish it by 2020.
Misuari expressed his gratitude for granting the Muslim community a space for their traditional and religious burial practices.
"It is extraordinary and magnificent, said Misuari.
Moreno said the idea came as Muslims residing in Manila would transport their deceased to burial places in Bulacan, Taguig, or in Mindano due to lack of resting place in Manila.
"When I came in I asked myself, 'we have Filipino cemetery, we have Chinese cemetery. But why don't we have a Muslim cemetery?," said Moreno.
The Muslim Cemetery will have its own entry gate and washing building.
"It's done next year. This one, consider it done. We are just waiting for the funding," the mayor told Misuari. Cristina Eloisa Baclig/DMS
