Moreno gives Manila city engineers three days to submit report on hotel collapse

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno gave city engineers three days to submit a report on the investigation regarding the collapse of the Sogo Hotel in Malate.
In a memorandum sent to City Engineer and City Building Official Armando Andres on Tuesday, Moreno ordered an examination on the incident on Monday, which killed two construction workers and left one injured.
"In relation to the collapse of the Sogo Hotel building located along Mabini St., Ermita, Manila, where a number of persons died, you are hereby directed to immediately conduct a thorough investigation on the cause of the collapse and determine all possible factors leading to the incident such as but not limited to the strength of materials like steel bars, concrete, etc.," said Moreno.
Around 9:30 am on Monday, a portion of the Sogo Hotel along Mabini Street collapsed. According to authorities, a demolition was taking place when the accident occurred.
The casualties were identified as Melo Ison and Jeromi Fabello. Another worker identified as Edison Ison was brought to the hospital after sustaining injuries. Cristina Eloisa Baclig/DMS
