Most Filipino voters looking for candidate ‘who will not be corrupt’: SWS
March 24, 2019
Most Filipino voters are looking for a senatorial candidate who 'will not be corrupt,' a Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey showed.
The SWS survey released on Saturday said being corrupt-free was the top quality the respondents are looking for in a senatorial bet for the 2019 midterm elections. The poll firm said the survey was commissioned.
"In view of a sponsor-authorized release of a commissioned item, SWS is disclosing the pertinent results and technical details, for the benefit of the public," said SWS.
About 22 percent of the respondents said they prefer a senatorial candidate 'who will not be corrupt' while 22 percent answered they want to vote someone who 'helps or has concern for the poor.'
Other top qualities preferred for a senatorial bet are 'having a good personal characteristic (for example, good, generous, fair, responsible, etc.)' and being trustworthy, which both earned 21 percentage of the responses.
Twenty percent of respondents also said they are looking for a candidate who 'has concern or helpful to those in need.'
In Metro Manila, the SWS survey found that being trustworthy is the most mentioned trait one is looking for in a senatorial aspirant.
In Visayas and among urban dwellers, being corrupt-free was the most answered quality while in Mindanao, people mostly preferred someone who has good personal characteristics.
The survey was conducted between Dec. 16 to 19, 2018 using face-to-face interview with 1,440 adults nationwide.
There were 360 respondents each from Balance Luzon, Metro Manila, Visayas and Mindanao. The survey implied error margins, at 95 percent confidence level, of ±2.6 percent for national percentages, and ±5 percent each for Balance Luzon, Metro Manila, Visayas and Mindanao. Cristina Eloisa Baclig/DMS
